Our Junior program at Delacombe Park Cricket Club is a great start for kids wanting to participate in cricket. The foundations start from our Woolies Junior Blaster program allowing the kids to start their journey and learn the very basics of cricket in a fun environment.
The kids then make their way into Junior Cricket playing in Under 10’s up to Under 16’s where further skills are developed and there is more understanding about the game of cricket and skills needed to become a great cricketer.
We have had many talented cricketers come through our club with some going on to play for their own states and in English County Cricket. We can see talent within our Juniors currently and hope they can continue to grow and develop to continue on their cricketing journeys.
In 2020 we introduced our first ever Junior Girls’ Team. The girls have loved the experience of learning and growing within the sport over the last couple of years. The camaraderie between the girls and the opposition sides has been amazing. Their drive to play and have fun is the main purpose and having a win here and there helps too! We hope to grow this format each year.
A bit about Sharon and Andrew Christides – our Junior Coordinators..
Andrew started his cricket journey back in 1985 playing in the under 12s, moved up through the Junior ranks and then through the lower grades in the Seniors. He made his debut in the Firsts as a 17 year old in the early 90s and has been an integral part of our first & second teams ever since. Many years of service on the committee, coaching junior teams and being a loyal club person saw him awarded with life membership around 10 years ago. Continuing on with playing Senior cricket and looking forward to the day of playing along side his two young boys (Lucas & Thomas).
Sharon married into the game!! After seeing the relationships/friendships that Andrew had developed over his many years at DPCC she wanted nothing more than to have the same opportunity for her boys. She became involved in the club doing varied roles and has been an integral part of our Club Committee over the last 8 years. The main goal as Junior Coordinators is to make it a fun, enjoyable, inclusive environment for all the kids involved. Junior cricket is the foundation of a successful cricket club.
